Members of the Weare Police Department and Weare Fire Department continue to work closely with Earl Russell (owner of Street Wise Driving Academy) to assist in educating these soon to be drivers on the rules of the road and safe driving habits! During our presentation, information is shared with the students and they are encouraged to participate in scenario based discussions.

The topics discussed include (but are not limited) to the following:
Speed transition zones and the proper time to accelerate or reduce speed.
Use of Mobile electronic devices while Driving (NH RSA 265:79-c).
Approaching Horses (NH RSA 265:104).
“Jessica’s law” (NH RSA 265:79-b – Negligent driving).
Move Over Law (NH RSA 265:37-a).
Reckless Operation (NH RSA 265:79).
Parking Prohibited (NH RSA 265:69).
Passing a School Bus (NH RSA 265:54).

Minors and Alcohol
          Driving while Impaired (RSA 265-A:2);
          Case Law of Weldy v. Kingston;
          Transportation of Alcoholic Beverages by a Minor (RSA 265-A:45);
          Class discussion on the risks tied to allowing an impaired friend leave a party.

Youth Operator License and the restrictions focused on new operators.

Please remember…newly licensed youth drivers have some restrictions on their youth operator’s license:

They shall not operate a motor vehicle between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.,

nor shall such holder operate a motor vehicle when the number of occupants exceeds the number of safety restraints in the vehicle. 

During the first 6 months after issuance of the license, the holder of a youth operator's license shall not operate a motor vehicle with more than one passenger less than 25 years of age who is not a member of the holder's family unless accompanied by a licensed responsible adult who is at least 25 years of age. 

Revocation or Suspension on a Youth Operator License:
Director is authorized to revoke or suspend any original license held by a person under 20 years of age after a hearing

Periods of suspension: 20 days 1st offense, 45 days 2nd offense and 90 days 3rd offense

2 or more speeding tickets as youth operator driver within first two years of having license you are required to obtain SR-22 Insurance Policy for 3 years from date of second hearing.

We would also like to remind young drivers about the Transportation of Alcoholic Beverages by a Minor (RSA 265-A:45) - No driver under the age of 21 shall transport any liquor or beverage in any part of a vehicle, except when accompanied by a:

             Parent/step-Parent/legal Guardian
             Grandparent/step-Grandparent
             Legal age spouse (21+ years old)
             Sibling
             Domestic Partner

             A Driver violating this section may have his or her license or privilege to drive suspended for
            60 days.
