The Weare Conservation Commission

According to the enabling law, signed into effect in 1963 by Governor John King ( New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated 36-A), "A city or town...may establish a conservation commission ... for the proper utilization and protection of the natural resources and for protection of the watershed resources of said city or town."

The Weare Conservation Commission (WCC) provides the following services to the Town.

• The WCC evaluates development plans and proposals to encourage environmental responsibility and sensitivity in development.
• The WCC provides recommendations to the Weare Planning Board regarding minimizing environmental impact of proposed developments based on pre-review of plans for wetlands delineation, applicable environmental setbacks, etc.
• The WCC reviews state wetland permit applications and provides recommendations to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Wetlands Bureau;
• The WCC identifies areas to be maintained as town open space;
• TheWCC maintains existing town conservation lands and easements by regularly walking the boundaries and interior trails to ensure responsible protected-lands stewardship; and
• The WCC manages the Weare conservation fund, which receives deposits when land is taken out of the current use program, to promote conservation of open space for wildlife habitat and responsible recreational use.
